You don't have to unlock your bootloader to install an update through Recovery. Just download the ROM package, then go to the Updater, tap on the 3 dots, then select "Choose update package", then find the ROM you downloaded, and finally, press OK.

It isn't working, genius guy.

According to a Xiaomi-focused group on Telegram, the MIUI 12 update for the global variants of the Redmi Note 8 is ready as version 12.0.2.0.QCOMIXM. Those who are on version V11.0.11.0.PCOMIXM should get the update soon. The group has been fairly accurate in the past.

can you tell how long it take to receive update?🙄

How can I install via recovery with the locked bootloader?  When I try to unlock after the 7 days: it gives to me more 7 days. '-_-
Why do you do that with RN8 users?

You got another 168 hours because you probably did something wrong. Either you entered the devlopers options and mi unlock status and connected the Xiaomi account to the phone for the second time, which causes the waiting time for the second time, or you used optimization in the security panel or you scanned from viruses there which turned off the developer option. Another reason may be this that you manually disabled developer options.
Remember, we only turn on the developer option once and only once we link the Xiaomi account with the phone in the Mi Unlock status option and only once we turn on the oem unlock option there. We turn off the phone, turn it on in fastboot vol- and power mode, connect to PC, run Mi Unlock Tools and log in to the same Xiaomi account as on the release, when the phone detects, click unlock, as the waiting time has expired, the bootloader will unlock us, as it will not show how long do we have to wait.
In 168 hours, or about 7 days, turn off the phone, turn on the fastboot mode - connect vol- and power to the PC, run the Mi Unlock Tools program, log in to your account the same as on the phone and click unlock. So much. We do not optimize the security panel and we do not scan security also in the security panel. We don't manually disable the developer option. We do not repeat the entry to Mi Unlock status and we do not link the account a second time.
We just repeat the step with the fastboot mode and the Mi Unlock Tools program.

I don't see "choose update package"

Ok. What's the problem with the procedure that I suggested, mr. Smarty-pants.
