Where were you in 2016? Definitely not where you are today.
That's the story of Xiaomi, as at five years ago they weren't the technology giant they are today. They were known as the copycats from China who were always replicating the designs of other top mobile manufacturers.
Then something extraordinary happened, Xiaomi the copycat firm became innovative and launched the Xiaomi Mi Mix, a truly bezel-less phone with an insane screen-to-body ratio of 91.3%.

At the time, manufacturers were still struggling to achieve a mere 80% screen-to-body ratio and Xiaomi were able to achieve 91.3% at their first attempt.
But Xiaomi were not the first manufacturer to manufacture a bezel-less smartphone, Sharp did it first but recorded lukewarm reception.
When Xiaomi unveiled theirs, they took the whole industry by storm and motivated other smartphone manufacturers to join the bandwagon.

While it was normal for phones of those days to come with the selfie camera, earpiece grille and sensors at the top bezels, that wasn't the case for the Xiaomi Mi Mix.
Xiaomi moved the selfie camera to the bottom chin of the phone, and used modern technologies to replace the earpiece and proximity sensors.

Xiaomi collaborated with Elliptical labs to develop a new technology called the 'Inner Beauty' and used it to replace the proximity sensor with an ultrasound software.

The proximity sensor on your smartphone is what turns off the screen during calls when you bring it close to your ear, this is to prevent accidental presses.
Despite not having a physical proximity sensor, the Xiaomi Mi Mix had algorithms which could detect when the phone was close to your ear and turn the screen off, and it worked perfectly.

Piezoelectric ceramics were used for the speakers, they vibrate based on the signal received and then vibrate the metal frame of the phone, these series of vibrations is what makes the user hear voices clearly during calls.
Quite innovative I must say.
