Hello Mi Fans,
Have you seen the Redmi Note 9S? It was launched around a month ago here in Bangladesh. I am going to share my thoughts on this device after using it for couple of weeks.
Is the device worth the price? Let’s check that out.
As usual inside the Redmi Note 9S box, you will get a charger, a cable, a soft silicon case, a user manual, and a sim ejector tool. Though the device supports 18W fast charge, Xiaomi added a 22.5W adapter in the box. Very impressive work done by Xiaomi. One more thing, it comes with a thin screen protector applied. It was nice as well.
Design and Build Quality
Redmi Note 9S comes with a very flagship-level design. It has 6.67-inch IPS LCD display. This is a 1080p resolution screen with very thin bezels. At the front, there is a punch hole for the front camera. This new punch-hole display or dot display whatever the name is looks very attractive! There is a very thin earpiece at the top of the display, interestingly there is a tiny notification light inside it. The front glass is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Moving to the back of Redmi Note 9S, it is also protected by Gorilla Glass 5.
The color finishing of the backside looks gorgeous. I have seen other aurora blue colored devices but this device has something attractive! It looks really awesome. In the upper middle of the back, there is a quad camera setup.
I really love the camera position of this device. With the middle aligned camera, the best shots can be taken. There is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that is implemented along with the power button. Also, there is an IR Bluster and noise cancelation at the top and speaker, USB Type C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom.
This device also has P2i nano-coating which means, this device is splash-proof. So, it will survive the rain and some light splashes. It is not waterproof though, so be careful.
The Redmi Note 9S features a large 6.67" IPS LCD display with a punch-hole notch at the top to make room for the selfie camera. The resolution is extended 1080p - 2,400 x 1,080 pixels - making for a 395ppi density.
The Redmi Note 9S display is protected with a Gorilla Glass 5, but this Redmi also ships with a screen protector that's been applied in the factory.
This device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor. The SoC uses an octa-core CPU in a 2+6 configuration - 2x2.3GHz Kryo 465 Gold (Cortex-A76 derivative) cores and 6x1.8GHz Kryo 465 Silver (Cortex-A55 derivative) cores. The GPU in this chip is Adreno 618 - the same one found in the Snapdragon 730. The 720G is built on an 8nm manufacturing process - currently one of the most efficient processes available. I ran a couple of benchmarks, and the CPU is shaping as an excellent performer.
In terms of GPU performance, the Redmi Note 9S returns strong numbers. It's obvious the Redmi Note 9S is properly equipped for the class and is consistently scoring great on the tests, no matter their purpose.
The heaviest of tasks - gaming - is not only possible on the Note 9S, but a breezy experience. I have played Call of Duty: Mobile at very high graphics at 60 fps. I have not faced any laggings.
COD Mobile at Very High Graphics
So, it can be said that for Gaming, this device is a great choice.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S is powered by a large 5,020mAh Li-ion battery. It supports 18W quick charge, but the 9S ships with a 22.5W brick - meaning you will be overequipped.
It takes around 1hr 45mins to fully charge Redmi Note 9S. The battery backup was also awesome that you can see in the screenshots.
Redmi Note 9S has Quad Camera setup at the upper middle of the back. The main camera uses a 48 MP sensor with a Quad-Bayer filter, probably the ISOCELL Bright GM2 sensor by Samsung.
It's a large sensor with 0.8µm pixels, and the lens has f/1.79 aperture. The image output is 12MP. There is an ultra-wide-angle camera with an 8MP sensor. Also, Redmi Note 9S offers a 5MP macro and a 2MP depth camera sensor. The photos taken with the main camera offers very good detail. The foliage is a smudgy mess, the window blinds were too complex for the algorithm and so was any intricate detail. Here are some photo samples.

Ultra Wide Angle Shot
Also, this device is very good at taking night shots also. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S captures videos up to 4K @ 30fps, but 1080@60fps and 1080@30fps are available as well. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I was not able to take more photos or videos. Sorry about that.
There is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Side-Mounted fingerprint is more handy compared to rear fingerprint.
At first, I thought this is odd but once I used it as your daily driver, I find the difference between rear and side-mounted fingerprints. Also, the fingerprint sensor of Redmi Note 9S is super-fast. I cannot see the difference in the naked eye. Just tap and unlock. It's so instant.
The Redmi Note 9S is an excellent smartphone and there is no doubt. It offers great performance, a large screen, and a good variety of cameras and shooting modes. And typical for the Redmi Notes, this one also excels in battery life. The Redmi Note 9S offers more than enough bang for its price range. So you are searching for a device under 26 thousand taka, this will be a great choice from my perspective.
