Greetings from Mi Community Bangladesh Tech Team. MediaTek has announced a new Dimensity chipset for smartphones, the Dimensity 820 with 5G support and the company's latest multimedia, AI, and imaging innovations. It is an octa-core processor with an integrated ARM Mali G57 GPU for handling graphics. The company says it has been designed for global sub-6GHz 5G networks in North America, Asia and Europe. The Dimensity 820 SoC support two 5G SIMs with its Voice over New Radio services.
The Dimensity 820 includes an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.6GHz. On top of that, there's a penta-core Mali-G57 GPU. This can be compared to the Dimensity 800, which has the same architecture in its eight cores, but the four big cores are clocked at 2GHz. That's all combined with APU 3.0, the latest generation of the firm's AI Processing Unit.
Talking about the new processor’s capabilities, the Dimensity 820 supports MediaTek’s APU 3.0 that helps in providing more powerful camera features. Thanks to Imagiq 5.0, the processor’s ISP, smartphones that ship with this chip can house up to 4 cameras with sensors size as high as 80 megapixels. This chipset also supports Multiframe 4K video HDR and is optimized for gaming as well.
According to MediaTek, the new chip also offers higher average speeds and a seamless handover between two 5G connection areas for the most reliable connectivity on the go. While the chipset seems quite impressive right now, we will have to wait for the launch to see how it actually stacks up against its primary competition, Qualcomm, and its Snapdragon 765G and 768G processors.
