It's a torrid time this period. The world is facing trying times and everyone is standing tall in prayers and actions against coronavirus.
No contribution against this lethal virus is irrelevant, don't stop that little or huge thing you are doing to help anyone in need during this difficult time.

Now, to a less emotional and worrying but important matter.
We can all agree that guessing what is happening in your device or imagining the data speed of your carrier's service is almost impossible or less accurate no matter how much you try.
A lot of Mobile phone manufacturers, smartphone makers and app developers alike have tried to solve this issue, some have failed others have succeeded, some are still trying.
Xiaomi/redmi have an inbuilt function that displays your network speed on the top of your bar, though its just the download speed that is being reported.
Most android device have an inbuilt data manager that reports an app data usage individually, but no one does it according to the data connection being used at the moment.
These needs brings us to a review of another great app the Network monitor mini.

The network monitor mini or like I prefer to call it NMM. Is a network monitor app, that displays the data speed of your carrier's service. This is done in a matter of second and calculated or measured in any data format according to your desire, whether in KB or kb.
When you open NMM for the first time, you are introduced to this screen below.

What makes NMM standout from other data monitors and inbuilt mi data monitor?  NMM takes your data readings to a whole new level with various customization options.
You have the option of changing your reading fonts, color, alignment and more. Other than these features, NMM lets you display your data readings in upload and download formats simultaneously, providing a precise information of your data speed. When NMM is running and you turn on your data connection, on your notification bar, there is an option that lets you see the app currently using your data as soon as the data connection is turned on, giving you the exact knowledge of which app has access to your data service and which app starts up whenever your data is turned on.

It's comforting to see your data speed at a 0/0 count when you expect nothing to be running on the background and consuming your data resource.  Again, if you have no means to monitor this activity, you will guess wrong in every occasion.
NMM has been my companion and most relied upon data monitor.  It's does not only display your data count, but allow you place that data speed counter anywhere on your screen; from top to bottom, to middle to side, to edge.... wherever you may desire it to appear for convenience sake.
NMM is accurate in every count, providing a much more precise data count in each second without any delay or obstruction.
Like every app I have reviewed, NMM is famous for its customization prowess, which allows a user to take the app to a distinguished level according to need.
NMM is beneficial to everyone who uses an android device and at the same time makes use of the Internet service.

One of the most interesting aspect of NMM is the option to transform the appearance of your data counter to look as you want.
By default NMM displays your data readings as shown in the image below.

Which is convenient, but if you are a Mi, then customization must be in you.
Lets take this look to another level.
Personally, I like my data counter to appear in vertical alignment with the upload speed up and the download speed below[This is not possible on the free version of NMM]. Let me work you through on how to achieve this.

Open NMM and scroll down to "Readings" or simply click the 3 lines on the top left corner of your screen as shown in the image below and tap "readings".

Click on custom prefix [SET] and select your desired way to represent data speed of upload and download, or refer to the image below for photographic explanation.

When done, click okay and your data readings will be represented as desired, take for example mine below.

Open NMM and scroll down to Layout or simply click the 3 lines on the top left corner of your screen and tap "layout".
After this, locate "horizontal" and turn it off.  When this feature is off, the data readings is displayed as shown in the image below.

Text Color
No need to leave the data readings in plain white if you don't like it because there is an option to represent data readings in different colors.
To do this, scroll down to "text color" after opening NMM or simply click the 3 lines on the top left corner of your screen and tap on "text color", choose your preferred color in the options given.
You can go further by clicking on Prefix/network type [SET], on the next page turn on "prefix color" and [PICK] your preferred color for download and upload counter.
On that page still, you can choose how transparent the background of the data readings should be by increasing or decreasing the background option meter.

This option lets you choose which part of your screen the network readings appear on. You can also be more creative by choosing the "text alignment" option.

Custom Size
You can either make the readings bigger or smaller depending on your choice. To do this, scroll down to "custom size" and turn on "enable custom size" if its off. And increase or decrease the options which includes font, width and height to your taste.

Custom Font
You can also choose the font style. To do this, locate "custom font" below and tick "predifined-font" and click on the option below to choose from your list of fonts.

This option shows you the number of connections active on your data. When taped on your notification tray, the apps using your data are exposed.  But this feature doesn't come by default. To have it enabled.  do this, scroll down to "Notification" after opening NMM or simply click the 3 lines on the top left corner of your screen and locate "location", go down and click on "simple: IP + Network" and switch to "Advanced: 1 hour traffic...." And your notification display of NMM will look like this,

and if the connection count is clicked, apps using your data will be displayed.
Refer to image grid below to see for yourself.

Import and export of configuration files.
To ease the burden of always reconfiguring NMM every installation, you can export and import your config file anytime in NMM. Follow the image below to know how.

I am sure with all these information provided you can now make your data readings appear as desired, while keeping tabs on your network speed.

You must have seen the ads at the bottom of the NMM home page.
To get rid of this you can purchase the pro from playstore for a price.
The ads going away won't be the only thing you get, you also get these;
  • Download and upload order becomes changeable.
  • Refresh time increase/decrease.
  • Normalise traffic.
  • Auto hide NMM on specific conditions e.g no data connection or from displaying when you are using a particular app.
  • Custom location[lets you place the data counter anywhere on your phone's screen].
  • More fonts: pro version loads both sd/int storage fonts.

It's better to start every journey with a smile, so let's take this NMM path with the pros first.
  • Appropriate data speed report.
  • Data usage according to running apps.
  • Customization features.
  • Import and export of configuration file support.
  • Light weight, only 3mb in size.

  • Ads support.
  • Less Customization features supported on the free version, even while there is still ads.

If you ever wondered how to keep tabs or track your Internet activity on your device, network monitor mini is the way.

A solid 4⭐⭐⭐⭐star.
One star less for the ads and restricted customization options on the free version.

To give NMM a try, click on the link below

Or download the app here. Network Monitor Mini v1.0.259.apk (3.26 MB, Downloads: 3)

You can also download my configuration file here config.apk (1.97 KB, Downloads: 1) for NMM. After downloading the file, go to your file manager locate and move the file to your internal storage and place it internal storage/netmon-mini paste the file here. Rename the config file from config.apk to config
If the folder doesn't exist, create it with the folder name provider before.
This is my review of the Network Monitor Mini [NMM] app. Until the next one, Zesushv YoursReviewsfully.

very useful for the Non MI device users or custom ROM users. Especially who don't have built in network speed option in their ROM.
