[Device Tips & Solution #01] How To Fix ‘SIM Card Isn't Detected’ Error - Redmi 7/7A - Mi Community

In the very first chapter of this series, we'll learn what we should do when our smartphone is unable to detect SIM card.

Reboot your device
This is the simplest solution for this error! When you reboot your device, it revitalizes most of the software of the device and thus, it assures to fix the errors like this one.

Reboot your device.

Check the SIM tray of the device
Well, if SIM card is not placed appropriately or if there's any dust particles on the SIM tray, it ends up causing this error. To check whether the problem is occurring for any of these, follow the steps below:

Turn your phone off and find the SIM tray,
Check if SIM card wasn't installed properly or remove it from the tray to check if there's any dust particles on it,
Just place SIM card properly or blow out dust particles from the tray to place the card appropriately on it,
Now, turn your smartphone on.

Note: After turning the device on, check if the error is still happening or not. If it is, there's a high chance that SIM card is damaged or uncleaned.

Check your SIM card
A damaged or uncleaned SIM card may also be the reason for this annoying issue.

Turn your phone off and find the SIM tray,
Check SIM card to see if there's any dirt and debris on its gold portion,
If there's any, simply and carefully clean the connectors on SIM card with air or a soft and dry cloth,
Turn your phone on.

Note: If the error keeps occurring even after doing this, SIM card is most probably damaged. In such case, try with a new one.

Enable and disable Airplane Mode
In case you're unable to fix the error via using the methods mentioned earlier, try to fix that with this useful one.

Pull down the Notification panel from the top or long press the power button,
Select Airplane Mode. It'll be turned on,
Turn it off a little while later (10s–20s).

Note: After being disabled, Airplane Mode will obviously look for the network signals - which may fix your problem.

Set the Network Mode to auto
If the mobile network of your device is different from the carrier you're utilising for your device, it would cause SIM card detection failure as well. Thereafter, you should set the mobile networks of the phone to auto - it'll automatically choose the preferred network and fix the error.

Go to Settings and open SIM cards & mobile networks,
Select your preferred SIM card,
Tap on Mobile networks,
Just enable Select network automatically.

Factory data reset
If none of the methods mentioned above works, you've only one option left - Factory data reset. If you're determined to perform this method, follow the steps below. But before doing it, take a full backup.

Go to Settings and open Additional settings,
Scroll down and select Backup & reset,
Choose Factory data reset and then Reset phone,
Now login with your Mi Account to proceed furthermore.

Note: This method is advised only when the error can't be fixed by the above methods and the problem is too big.

In case you have a water damaged phone
If you accidentally drop your device in water or if some water, somehow, goes inside, no doubt, the circuits of the device will get damaged. The damaged circuits can end up causing this detection failure. In such cases, you will have to dry the device out completely. For that:

Remove the back cover and the battery,
Remove SIM card(s) and the other parts,
Put those parts in a bowl of rice to dry. Let those be there for one or two days to fully dry.

Note: After waiting for a few days, put those parts altogether. Plug the phone in and turn it on. Check if SIM card detection failure is still occurring or not. If it is, visit the nearest service centre.

Voila! You've successfully fixed ‘SIM Card Isn't Detected’ error!!
