Xiaomi has just presented Youpin, a very special smartphone, on its crowdfunding platform. Let's talk about a device produced by QIN, a sub-brand of Xiaomi usually dedicated to the creation of feature phones, or old-fashioned phones with physical keys. Well, the new Xiaomi QIN AI Life 4G is instead a real smartphone, with features that also make it a sort of remote control of the future.
The QIN AI Life 4G adopts a very simple design with a completely plastic body that makes it very light at only 105 grams. While the total dimensions are of 132.6mm × 55.4mm × 8.6mm. In this chassis, which is somewhat reminiscent of an iPhone SE, we then find an 5,05 inch screen with 1440 x 576 pixels resolution, with the aspect ratio that instead reaches up to the 22.5: 9, so a more than long device.
Xiaomi Qin AI Life presented: Smartphone or smart remote?
Despite the smartphone being in the entry-level category, the front shows relatively thin edges. This is not however thanks to an innovative design, but it is one of the "merits" of the total removal of the front camera. In fact, we have only one back with 5MP resolution.
The new QIN terminal is powered by a Spreadtrum SC9832E processor assisted by 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The specifications from super entry-level should still be enough since the smartphone runs with Android Go 9.0, which is the lightest version of the operating system from Google.
In any case, as we previously anticipated, although the Xiaomi QIN AI Life 4G has the ability to connect to the 4G network, Xiaomi advertises the product more as a smart remote with artificial intelligence than a real smartphone. In fact, we have a fairly sparse User Interface with buttons large enough to open apps like the XiaoAI assistant, the Mijia application to control the various Xiaomi products at home and a button to use the device as a remote control through the infrared emitter.
So, in fact, the QIN AI Life 4G is perhaps more useful as an AI assistant / smart remote, usable by everyone inside or outside the home, than as a dedicated smartphone.
As for the other specifications instead, we have a fairly small 2100mAh battery which can be recharged through a reversible USB Type-C port. There is also the 4.2 type Bluetooth module, WiFi, the OTG functionality and 4G connectivity on the B1, B2, B3, B5 and B8 bands.
The Xiaomi QIN AI Life 4G is now in the crowdfunding campaign on the official website at the 499 Yuan figure, or on the 105 euros at current exchange rates.
