Flash sale makes it interesting. This strategy has worked so far, I do not see a need to change for the time being.

Well, flash sale is good for the company in the beginning of its market expansion.
The flash makes a lot of noise and brings a lot of emotion.
It can be good when releasing a new product, for the first month or two.

But not permanently.

I know that flash sales proved good for Apple and I know that Hugo Barra proved it good for Google, but I also know that many customers not only don't like flashes, but even hate them.

Marketing is a wide&wise science, so I wont deepen further, but there is a fundamental rule - the attitude to the product depends on the way you buy it. So - the more emotions and fighting  to take it, the greater disappointment is for the smallest missfits. And you can see this exactly happens.

In India , When flipkart sold 1,00,000 sets of redmi 1s on Big billion sale date i.e 6th october 2014 , it took nearly 6-7 hours for xiaomi phone to go out of stock . That day my cousins easily booked 2 phones using 2g internet connection and ordered via COD option .
The flash sale method might provide sensational headlines  to Xiaomi company "sold out in __ Seconds" but it won't help actual buyers anyway !!

Limited edition, that's what I want to say. Flash sale is good as long as the supply is limited. No relaunch. While you don't get one, get from retailers. And if it really out of stock, try another model.
