Greetings everyone, Wecome to our new home OC Community. Warm welcome to our App subforum. How to create a high quality app thread is a big question for the people who are new in community. Let me help you and clear your all doubts. Follow this guide to make perfect threads
Step By Step Instructions

Firstly please refer the Official Guidelines and Rules available for the App. Please go through them thoroughly before posting the threads.

Rules for Posting in App:

  • Search before posting. Use the search function before posting a new thread, so as to avoid duplicated threads, which will be deleted without notice.
  • Avoid posting similar type of apps in short duration.
  • Keep high quality levels. We always prefer quality threads over quantity.
  • Use the forum attach function to upload your apk. Links to third party sites are not allowed. Threads without a proper attachment will be deleted.
  • Any type of App reservation is not allowed. Reserved thread will be deleted without any notice.
  • Try to avoid. any product advertising (e.g. name of brands), propaganda of drugs, war, violence and any **/**ual content.

Here is an All-in-One guide to follow while creating an App thread

1. Finding App from PlayStore

  • Go to and find an attractive and trending app
  • Always pick up apps from the Official Google play store/Mi App Store as the apps from others third party sites are not allowed on the forum
  • If the app is more trending and hot in the play store, then there is a good chance that more users will be attracted to your thread. So always try to go for the best one you can find

2. Search for Duplicate app threads in the forum

  • Use forum Advanced Search to get a filtered search result from the App section

Using search

  • As only 50 search results will be shown, try different keywords in advanced search {Example: for Mi Community App use keywords "Mi Community App","MI","community". etc}
  • Apps already shared by Resources team or App Review team cannot be shared again and will be considered as duplicate threads.
  • Always remember to search before Posting

3. Creating an App thread

New thread

  • Select App as the section [Common forumApp] or [ResourcesApp]

Selecting App subforum

  • Select the thread/App type from the dropdown near the title [if unsure about the category, then choose others]

Choosing right category

  • Make the title as attractive as possible. The user should be attracted to your thread when they spot the title. {Example: [Mi Community App - Everything you need to know about Mi}

4. Adding content to your thread

4.1 Adding App icons
App icons can be extracted from the app page in the play store.
i) Right click on the app icon on the app page in the play store.
ii) Select "Open Image in a New Tab" or "Copy Image Address"
iii) The link thus obtained will have a postfix as "w=300". This specifies the image width of the icon. Changing this value will make the icon big up to 1024 or small if you decrease the value.
iv) For the App icon in our app, we would recommend 160x160px as size. So Alter the value "w=300" to "w=160" and click enter. Then download or save the new resized image to your device.
v) Upload the downloaded icon to the thread editor using the "Attach" button.
vi) Add the attached image to the needed area by clicking on the attachment.

vii) Icons can be added using image links too but it is not recommended as the images will be gone is the parent URL of the image changes.

Adding image to thread using link

4.2 Adding Description and App Details
i) Description and app details are usually copy-pasted from the app's page in the play store.

ii) The description should not be a screenshot but the copy of the text from the play store.
iii) Any external links, email, reviews, or feedback texts from the description needs to be avoided and removed.
iv) While adding the app details, there are usually two options that the app resources team members follow. Either they add the screenshot of the app details from the play store page or manually type the data.
v) It is better to avoid the emails or website name listed in the same area.
vi) The app store review rating can be also added to the thread if required either as text or as a screenshot. It could attract more people to check out the app if the app is a very good rated app.

4.3 Adding Screenshots
i) Right click on the Screenshots/App previews in the app page in the play store.
ii) Select "Open Image in a New Tab" or "Copy Image Address"
iii) The link thus obtained will have a postfix as "h900" or "h900-rw". "h900" specifies the image height of the screenshot. Alter it to the required height you require. Please make sure to remove the -rw found at the end of the URL as it will not let the image load in some locations The width will proportionally change as the height is adjusted.
iv) For the Screenshots in our app, we would recommend
252x448px as size for Portrait and 580x340px as size for Landscape. So Alter the value "h900" to "h444" and click enter. Then download or save the new resized image to your device.
v) Upload the downloaded icon to the thread editor using the "Attach" button.
vi) Add the attached image to the needed area by clicking on the attachment.

4.4 Adding APK and play store link
i) For adding the play store link, copy the URL of the app page in play store
ii) Make sure that you avoid the URL postfix "&hl=en". This needs to be avoided at the end of the URL. This text forces the app to the respective language play store even if you have set the play store language to the local language.

iii) As a resources team member, you will have the privilege to attach an APK of file size up to 80MB. Attaching an APK is always a good approach as it will be easier for the users to install the app directly from your thread. You can easily download the APK of an app by using this third party site. You can also use other third-party sites like this or this, but make sure that the APK is not Modded or tampered as there are chances to get malware. Also edit the APK name to a perfect name before uploading (example: com.miui.enbbs.apk which is of MIUI forum can be edited to MIUI_forum.apk).
iv) You can also use the APK Extractor app from play store to download the APK of the installed apps on your device.
v) The extracted APK can be uploaded to the forum using the Attach option available in the editor which is more recommended. You can also upload the APK in google drive and attach the download link (this is the case when the APK file is more than 80MB and other cases. This is just optional
vi) APK of Paid apps should never be uploaded as it is illegal to share paid app APK.

Always keep in mind

  • It is not the quantity of thread, it is the Quality that matters the most
  • Always search the forum using Advanced search to avoid duplicate threads
  • Always keep the threads neat and clean. Avoid unwanted spaces and keep the alignment constant.

For any tips or assistance regarding thread creation, PM via the forum to Section Moderators or use the official App Resources QQ group.
