Greetings Mi Fans,Many of us who are following the Global IoT trends know the famous prediction "50 Billion IoT devices by 2020" from Cisco. Sitting in the year 2019, we also know that it is not happening so early!
"NB-IoT" stands for "Narrow Band-Internet of Things". It is a low power wide area (LPWA) radio technology standard published by 3GPP in Release 13 that addresses the requirements of the Internet of Things (IoT). The technology provides improved indoor and outdoor coverage, supports massive numbers of low throughput IoT devices, low delay sensitivity, ultra-low device cost, low device power consumption, and optimized network architecture. Battery life of more than 10 years can be supported for a wide range of use cases.
To conclude, NB-IoT holds great promise to enable wide-scale adoption of IoT. However, NB-IoT or IoT connectivity, in general, is just one of the four building blocks of IoT. It needs to be supported by affordable IoT devices/modules/chipsets, as well as reliable, secure and scalable data processing platforms.
