AI Dual Camera
Mi A2 comes with an AI dual camera and a similar set-up which we saw in the camera beast Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Y2. The primary lens is a 12MP Sony IMX 486 sensor which captures still images with 1.25µ pixel & 1.75 aperture and used in daylight conditions. The secondary lens is a 20 MP Sony IMX376 sensor with 4-in-1 superpixels and an aperture of 1.7 which helps you to obtain depth information and in low light conditions. Xiaomi’s AI algorithm will process these images and them accordingly. This deep learning algorithm will help you to capture stunning low light portraits, better bokeh, better edge detection and lots more. Xiaomi also introduced lens selection and Manual Mode ( Pro Mode ) for this device.
12MP+20MP setup in Mi A2 is superior to 13MP+2MP which is available on other devices?
The primary 13MP sensor in other devices comes with a 1µ pixel sensor. But, the 12MP primary shooter of Mi A2 is having a 1.25µ pixel, which will help to capture more color, so better color reproduction than the 13MP sensor with the 1µ pixel. Also, there is a huge advantage in low light photography. 20MP sensor helps in edge detection in portrait photography.
And in low light photography with its 4-in-1 superpixels technology. Both sensors used in Mi A2 is having an aperture of 1.75. When you talk about aperture, a smaller number is better because it means the aperture is larger.
Because of this 1.75 aperture, there will be more light intake and better low light photography.
4-in-1 Super Pixel Technology
Like the above image, normal pixel layout will be like 1µ*1µ but here 4 pixels combined into 1 super pixel with an effective size of 2µ. Which will extract every detail and better color reproduction and a better output in low light photography.
Manual Mode or Pro Mode
Manual Mode is one of the cooler features which we have seen in our previous Mi Phones like Mi MIX 2, Mi 5, Mi A1 etc. This is one of the main highlights of this amazing camera. Using this Manual Mode we can control ISO, White Balance, Manual Focus which is handy, Shutter Speed ( useful in panning photography aka capturing photos of moving objects ). The picture shown below is the best example for that.
Here in Mi A2, we have one more option in Manual Mode which is lens selection, we can switch between both sensors as our needs.
Smart Lens Selection in AI Portrait Mode
The AI-powered dual camera has f/ 1.75 aperture which helps in AI-based semantic segmentation for better bokeh effect. This camera can detect the scenes and capture the best image with precise tuning and optimizations based on Xiaomi’s all-new AI algorithm. The camera is powerful enough to capture images with better depth.
Here in Mi A2, we have a feature called Smart Lens Selection, which will select the sensor according to the lighting conditions, 12 MP primary sensor is ideal for daylight while 20 MP secondary sensor is ideal for low light conditions.

EIS or Electronic Image Stabilization
Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) is a portrayal enhancement technique using electronic image processing. EIS minimizes blurring or compensates for device shake and this technique is defined as pan and slant. EIS will correct the device shaking in rach frames.
EIS in Mi A2 will help us to capture videos without much blur or shakes.
