Share your experience unlocking bootloader - Mi MIX 3 - Xiaomi Community

With all the news that my Mi Mix 3 5G isn't getting any updates, I've been considering installinig Custom ROMs. To this end, I have been investingating the process of unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP.

*  Has anyone had experience of unlocking their bootloader?
*  Does it really take 3 months?
*  Did it brick anyone's phone?

To unlock the bootloader follow the instructions:

It will take 168 hours and research before to flash custom ROM to avoid to brick the phone.

Hello,

The waiting period depends on the device. For some devices it is 3 days, for some it's a week, etc. You may check out the thread linked in comment #1 to know the step-by-step instructions. Unlocking the bootloader doesn't really brick the device, but doing any tweaks by flashing custom ROMs or mods might have a chance. But as long as you follow the instructions and know what you're doing, you won't have any issues.

Your reply has given me a lot more confidence. I wanted to be extra careful as I understand my phone (Mi Mix 3 5G) is not supported by Xiaomi due to disappointing sales.

I unlocked and flashed mine to get 5g using global rrom in less than 6 minutes. Forgot to back up the stock rom though stupidly and Global seems a bit sketchy as won't connect to back up and apps are glitchy at times.

sorry to hear about the mishap. I've had pc problems and I'm struggling to backup...in fact backup is ETA 4 hours. mine came with 5G enabled.
