Hei MIUI-ers,Wassup? MIUI 11 is rolling out progressively as scheduled or ahead of schedule for certain devices. As you know, users are excited and ready to experience the new user interface. Many users who are have locked bootloader should be able to install the updates on your device by yourself using the local update method. How do we do it effectively?Activating Additional Update featuresTo get additional features on the Update menu, to use Choose update package, Reboot to Recovery mode and knowing the Changelog.Navigate to Settings  About Phone  System Update and then tap on the MIUI icon 7 times. Tap the three dots menu, you will see the additional features added.Download latest packageThis option is downloading the latest firmware that it’s already running on your phone, should you want to keep especially for new phone. It won't erase your files on the phone.On the System Update menu, tap the three dots menu, then proceed to Download. It will start downloading if you are on WiFi or else accept to use cellular data. You can stop the download process at anytime.Choose update packageThis is for those who have downloaded, a Recovery Rom (ZIP) from the ROM thread or elsewhere. Download the Recovery ROM for your region, place it in your root directory.On the System Update menu, tap the three dots menu, then select the Recovery Rom ZIP you have downloaded earlier and click "Ok" to update your device.Customize your Update settingsYou can customize how you want to download via WiFi or mobile data, install update automatically, to Receive Updates early and Add Home screen shortcut for ease access from your Home screen.On the System Update menu, tap the three dots menu, then select the Update settings to enable the download options, add Home screen short and getting  Updates earlier.Reboot to Recovery modeThe options give you options to Reboot system which will restart the device normally. To Wipe Data is to do a factory reset: This will wipe all of your data like photos, videos, music, apps, everything and return your phone to its original factory condition. With Factory Reset Protection (FRP) turned on by default you will be prompted to enter your Mi Account username and password to perform a factory reset. The navigate use the Up/Down Volume key and power key to confirm.On the System Update menu, tap the three dots menu, then select the Reboot to recovery mode, it will reboot to recovery mode.You can do a normal system reboot by selecting Reboot and to confirm press Power key.To do a factory reset, choose Wipe Data, navigating using Up/Down Volume key and press the Power key to confirm.To update using Mi Assistant, choose "Connect to Mi Assistant" to run with Mi PC Suite V3.2. This tool is useful for those who have a bricked device and want to unbrick it. What's new for ChangelogFor those wanting to know "What's new" with the Changelog.On the System Update menu, tap the three dots menu, then select "What's new" to check the Changelog.MoreThe last menu as More, to do Feedback and understand the Privacy Policy.On the System Update menu, tap the three dots menu, then select "More" to do Feedback for issues and feature requests. You can checkout the Privacy Policy pertaining to your exposure of your privacy.Quick Fix for "Can't download" updating issueMany users who are have locked bootloader and very much rely on the updater to update their phone or users who have unlocked bootloader on a rooted device might experience this issue. Solution to Can't download issueThe update is available yet after the ROM ZIP has been downloaded yet after the server verification bit failed to update the downloaded zip, instead give an error of "Can't download" Something went wrong. Wait a minute or two and try again. What has happened here is that the after verification of device, it seems that it found some modifications in the device systems partition that will reject for it to successfully update your device. How can we update and solve this issue?First method:Since the OTA ROM zip had been downloaded earlier, so now you need it to force download the full developer zip. To do that go-to Settings, then About phone, System update.Click the three dots on the top right corner Tap the number 10 or 11 in the middle, for 7 times to get additional features on the Update settings.Since the OTA ROM is available in your device download_rom folder, but it won't update, hence you need a full Recovery Rom ZIP, to do that, tap the "Download latest package" to force download the full recovery Rom.Next click "Choose update package" locate your recovery Rom zip from your download_rom folder, then select the full recovery Rom zip. Next, it will prompt you to "Reboot and update".If that is successful, then you are done with this guide, or else if issue persists then follow thru the guide.Second method:By all means a Factory reset has to be done. To do that, go to Reboot to Recovery mode. Then proceed to Wipe Data as shown above.After the device is rebooted, do your initial setup and activate the Additional menu in the Update menu. Click the Settings, About phone, System update, then click Check for updates.The update should be available to you and update accordingly.Note: Even though these are official update files, it is always a good idea to back up the important data on your phone. In addition to that, there are some builds that are only intended for the Mi Pilot beta testing program, meaning that builds assigned for this group will not install on devices with Mi Accounts that do not have the requisite permission, which will return an error message, "Can't verify update" which in most cases can be solved by using VPN.Solution to Can't verify updateShould it not a beta testing build, then you can use VPN to download and complete the update process Go to Google Play storeSearch for VPN and install it.Activate the VPN app.Go to your Settings and enable VPN.Go to Settings, About phone, System update and Check for updates.The update should be available to you and update accordingly.That's all for now.
