When was the last time you went a day without looking at a screen? I don’t think you might remember. Working in front of a screen all day long can have serious health effects, however, one common problem that almost everyone can relate to is the irritated, fuzzy, and tired feeling eyes have by the end of the afternoon.
The tired feeling accompanied with blurry vision and headaches is medically known as computer vision syndrome.

A malady of modern times, computer vision syndrome doesn’t take long to kick in with just two hours in front of a screen enough to put people at risk. Further, the amount of time it takes is also very easy to reach when we combine the use of smartphones, tablets, computers and television.
Fortunately, researchers have come up with ways that lessen the problems associated with prolonged screen use and can potentially decrease its damage to the users' vision. These 8 tips will make a huge difference:
1. Use large font size.
Staring at small text can make you squint and put your face closer to the screen, leading to fatigue and headache, among other issues so boost text size and color contrast to make things easier to read. Go to settings then display text size.
2. Adjust brightness.
The first and important thing to do is to adjust your screen’s brightness according to your surrounding. Setting the brightness too low or too much can stress your eyes and can cause problem maintaining focus. To adjust your smartphone brightness according to your environment, go to phone settings option, then to display, and turn on adaptive brightness. Now the screen brightness will be adjusted automatically, depending on the light around you.

3. Blink more often.
Smartphone users who are glued to their screen tend to forget to blink, which can dry out our eyes. Blinking more often prevent this from happening and reduces the effects of prolonged smartphone use. Eye drops are another simple and useful way to address this problem.
4. 20-20-20 rule.
This rule suggests that people who spend 20 minutes of working in front of a screen should take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away. The idea behind this is that eyes have muscles that help them move and focus on different objects and staring at one object at the same distance for hours makes it hard for them to adjust once we move again.
5. Keep a clean screen.
Routinely wipe down your smartphone screen with a dry (not wet!) cleaning cloth to remove distracting dust, grime, smudges and fingerprints.
6. Hold your smartphone farther away.
It’s ok. You don’t have to put it all the way down. We promise. Most people tend to hold their cell phones only about 8 inches from their faces. Not good. Try holding yours at least 16 to 18 inches away from your eyes to give your eyes a break. It might feel funny at first but shouldn’t take long to get used to.
As most of you must be aware, from MIUI 8 has an in-built feature of turning on reading mode, which reduces the harmful blue light. You can enable it via Settings Display Reading mode.
8. Get protective coatings
In case you don’t know matte screen protector film or corning gorilla glass have anti-glare feature. If your phone doesn’t have that (which is very rare as most of the smartphones come with corning gorilla glass) you can buy anti-glare coating and carefully put it on your phone’s screen. That should help reduce screen glare. If you wear glasses you can also get that anti-glare coating on your glasses.
