It has a more modern design, a bigger screen, a faster processor, dual rear cameras and a bigger battery. The core product philosophy is still the same though. The Mi Max 3, just like its predecessor, is a niche device designed first and foremost for multimedia consumption for people who don't want to invest in tablets which on most occasions lack voice calling. Let us compare Mi Max 3 & Redmi Note 5 (China Variant) or Redmi Note 5 Pro (Indian Variant)
The Mi Max 3 also boasts of a full-metal body. Its design is reminiscent to the Mi 6X, but it is much larger. The front is big and bezel-less while the dual camera module on the back is reminiscent to how things are on-board the Redmi Note 5 Pro. In the case of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, these are placed right where you can see them, and also these result in the top and bottom ends being plastic. The Mi Max 3, much like the Redmi Note 5 Pro, also comes with an always-on fingerprint scanner on the rear. The Mi Max 3 is 7.99 mm thick & 87.4 mm x 176.15 mm in dimension and weights 221g. The Mi Max 3 is powered by a 1.8 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Processor clubbed with Adreno 509 GPU, which is the same core hardware as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, making it one powerful device for the price. The Snapdragon 636 is notable for bringing Qualcomm's Kryo 260 CPU cores into the Snapdragon 63X range, bringing more raw CPU power into the mid-range segment. The Kryo 260 CPU inside the Snapdragon 636 can deliver roughly 40% more power than the Snapdragon 630 inside phones like the Moto X4, according to Qualcomm. Additionally, the Snapdragon 636 also crams in a bumped up Adreno 509 GPU that gives it a 10% performance boost over the Adreno 508 inside the Snapdragon 630, Qualcomm adds. Based on a 14nm finfet manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 636 is quite efficient too, unlike the 28nm-based Snapdragon 650: in addition to bringing a faster X12 LTE modem and support for LPDDR4 RAM among other improvements.
