Hi All,

Weird thing happened. I use a PIN to lock my phone screen. Was working fine last night before i slept (been using for almost a year) but this morning after i woke up, the phone asked  me for a password?? Is this a software update issue? I cannot unlock my phone now (tried my PIN, tried rebooting a few times but same issue). Pls advise urgently as i need to unlock my phone ASAP.

Tried calling SG service centre +65 97705903 helpline many times but no one picked up.  Many thanks in advance!

JDH I'm still researching for a way without having to hard reset your phone. Hang on.

JDH most of the search I got are ending up hard reset. :( This will wipe out your data like a factory default. Try also searching in google I may have missed some search results.

Thanks Chinito. i'm looking at the same search results. I really don't want a hard reset and lose all my contacts and photos... =(

On the other hand, i really want to know how can this happen that my screen lock suddenly changed from PIN to password by itself?

Did u install something last night? Remember any stuff u did that might cause this? Did u receive an update for MiUI? There's so many factors of the cause, it can be a malware that suddenly got installed without you knowing. Pin to password will not happen by itself without us changing it, unless malware or a bug from MiUI did this.

Btw, did you back up your photos and contacts to your google account? Check it. Changed your google password too pls. Im just thinking ahead of risk.

If all your photos and contacts are backed up. Good. Then decide if you want to reset your phone or wait a bit. Just to make sure bro, u don't have any credit cards or personal info saved in your phone right? Sorry im just concerned if this is a malware then we have to safeguard your data. Go to all your email accounts, online banking accounts that use in your phone and reset all passwords. Lets take this step first rather than finding the root cause. I'm paranoid hehe but it's for your own good.

Agree remove your SD card JDH. Remove sims. Then restart the phone and test. If u save and back up to Mi cloud then good. At least u have a way to retrieve your data if it comes you have to do hard reset.
