Despite having a much smaller offline network than the competition, Xiaomi has managed to overcome the challenges of running an online-first sales model in India to become the runaway leader in the online space. As more and more people grow comfortable with buying online, they turn to brands like Xiaomi for the sheer value on offer.Today, we’re reviewing Xiaomi’s most affordable product in India – something that Xiaomi calls the ‘desh ka smartphone’. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is the follow-up to the Redmi 4A that was launched earlier this year. Not much has changed, but the small changes will help in keeping the phone current. Thanks to its price tag of Rs 5,999.

Xiaomi is riding high on its successful Redmi series smartphone in India, and currently enjoying the title of being the No. 1 smartphone manufacturer in the country. After their runaway-hit Redmi Note 4, the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A were responsible for gathering moolah for the company. However, the year is about to end, which means that it's now time for a major revamp for the old heroes of the entry-level series. The Redmi 4A seems to be the first one to get all the love, which redresses itself with a new name, the Redmi 5A. We have the 2GB/16GB variant of the Redmi 5A on our desk and here are our initial thoughts about this ‘Desh ka smartphone,’ as Xiaomi puts it.The Redmi 5A is essentially a mild update to the Redmi 4A that was launched earlier this year. In fact, if you peel away the body of the Redmi 5A, you will find the innards of the Redmi 4A, almost entirely, apart from a few things. The Redmi 5A runs on the same Snapdragon 425 chipset underneath, same as the Redmi 4A, and even retains the same set of camera sensors — a 13MP sensor for the rear and 5MP for selfies.Redmi 5A doesn’t sport fancy 2.5D glass on its 5-inch LCD display for scratch resistance.

Xiaomi is touting the Redmi 5A as 'Desh ka Smartphone' or a smartphone that has been designed from grounds up for India. It is directed towards first-time Internet users and users who are looking to switch from a feature phone to a smartphone, without having to spend a fortune on a good handset. Much like the JioPhone, the Bharat 1, the Galaxy J2, the Moto C and the Nokia 2. Unlike the JioPhone, the Bharat 1, the Galaxy J2, the Moto C and the Nokia 2, however, the Redmi 5A doesn't compromise much in terms of hardware specs; it doesn't compromise much in terms of looks and feel either. The Redmi 5A, in fact, is the most powerful phone that money can buy at its low price point, and has a build quality to match if not better some of the more expensive phones in its price segment: a lot like its predecessor phone, the Redmi 4A.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A First Impressions
By Gadgets360

Xiaomi today refreshed its most affordable smartphone model, the Redmi 4A (Review), with a new generation. Touted as India's new "desh ka smartphone", the Redmi 5A is just as impressive in terms of specifications, bringing some serious firepower to the Rs. 5,999 price point. The ability to deliver solid specs at low prices has worked extremely well for the company so far, but now the big gimmick is essentially a massive company-sponsored subsidy on the first five million Redmi 5A units it sells, bringing the price down to Rs. 4,999. We've seen countless introductory offers before, but this one is undoubtedly going to cause a massive rush of prospective buyers when it goes on sale on December 7.

By Fonearena
Xiaomi just launched Redmi 5A, the company’s latest budget smartphone in India, as expected. The phone packs a 5-inch HD display. There is a black border round the screen, which looks a bit weird. The phone is powered by a Quad-Core Snapdragon 425 Mobile Platform, similar to the Redmi 4A. Running on Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9 on top, it has a 5-megapixel camera on the front with f/2.0 aperture. It doesn’t have backlit capacitive touch buttons, but there is a tiny notification LED below the home button that is hardly visible when it’s off.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A first impressions: Budget phone at Rs 4,999 that offers a lot more
By Indian Express

Xiaomi has seen steady growth in the smartphone business year after year. This year, in particular, has been great for the Chinese startup with it moving to the top slot in India with 23.5 per cent of smartphone shipments which ties it with long-time market leader Samsung, according to IDC.Last week, Xiaomi detailed plans to launch a phone that’s going to be the biggest surprise in the Indian smartphone industry. In its announcement on Thursday, Xiaomi announced the Redmi 5A in India which it likes to call as ‘Desh ka Smartphone’. The budget phone has been ‘Made in India’, and the base variant of the Redmi 5A sells for Rs 4,999. Though it’s not much different from the company’s past phones in the budget segment (remember the Redmi 4A?), this time the price makes a big difference. Xiaomi says it will start shipping the device from December 7 through Flipkart, Mi.com/in, and the company’s own stores and preferred partners.
