Just to make sure: Are you opening the picture using the stock Gallery app of MIUI? If yes then try clearing its cache and data and check of the lens icon shows on portrait pics. If this didn't work then try checking the hardware.
Check if the hardware is working: Goto Settings - About phone - Tap Kernel version 5 times (CIT will open automatically) - Find the Rear sub camera entry then tap it. If the rear sub camera works in CIT then you might just need a factory reset. If it doesn't work in CIT, you might try a factory reset, check CIT again and if the rear sub camera does not work in CIT after factory reset then you might get it fixed in nearest service center.
