  • Huawei announces 7nm Kirin 810 octa-core processor with a special focus on AI by ᎮᏒᎥᏁፈᏋ

As expected, China-based tech giant Huawei has today announced its latest upper mid-range mobile chipset — Kirin 810. With this, Huawei has now become the world’s first smartphone company to have two chipsets based on a 7nm process in its portfolio.

The HiSilicon Kirin 810 is an octa-core processor which comes equipped with two Cortex-A76 high-performance large cores clocked at 2.27 GHz and six Cortex-A55 energy efficient small cores clocked at 1.88 GHz. It is coupled with Mali-G52 GPU for graphics processing.

  • Gmail for Android starts getting first bits of dark mode by ᎮᏒᎥᏁፈᏋ

Those of you going insane at the amount of white in the latest Google app redesigns have probably been calming yourselves by thoughts of forthcoming dark modes. Most recently, the Google app, Files by Google, Google Drive, and Google Keep have received dark UIs of their own, and Gmail might just be next. The latest Gmail APK contains our first look at a dark mode, though it's sporadic and only in settings.

It only shows up in settings, not the main window or sidebar. We know, it's not much so far, but hopefully this will appease some of you who've been waiting for dark mode on one of Google's most-used apps.

  • MediaTek's 5G SoC Stands To Bring More Competition To 5G Devices by ᎮᏒᎥᏁፈᏋ

Late last year, MediaTek announced that its M70 5G modem was in the works and would support all kinds of 5G networks and standards—a fully featured 5G modem. Then, at MWC, the company demonstrated the modem’s capabilities with partner equipment, showing some impressive Sub-6Ghz speeds. At Computex, MediaTek followed up with the announcement that it will integrate its M70 modem into an SoC powered by ARM’s latest CPU and GPU cores. Let’s take a closer look.

MediaTek announced during ARM’s Computex press conference that it would be leveraging ARM’s new, lightning-fast Cortex-A77 CPU cores and Mali-G77 GPU cores with its M70 5G modem to build a competitive SoC. This is significant because MediaTek is ARM’s first public customer for ARM’s new CPU and GPU cores.
