Most times it's our own technique holding us back. Get out of the box, something as simple as trying new angles or perspectives makes a difference. Also remember that in photography less clutter gives more meaning. It's a great chance to learn a bit more and push your skills.
However, let's not fool ourselves. Many of these people seeking notoriety on Instagram (what for anyway?) take their photos with a DSLR, process them on a PC and fake that they come from a mobile phone. It's quite evident when you know about lens angles, depth of field or bokeh.
