PROCESSOR

n the heart of the Mi 5s Plus, is the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 SoC (an upgrade of the SD 820), and is engineered to deliver faster speed, improved power savings, and greater application performance! It is no concident that the latest announced Google Pixel Plus (priced at USD 744), is also powered by the same SD821 SoC! However, Comparatively, the Mi 5s Plus attractively priced at RMB 2,599 or USD 386, which is almost at half the price tag!).

CAMERA

The Mi 5s Plus received an upgrade and additional rear-facing camera and Sony Imaging Sensor Processors! Speaking first from the design-wise, the dual camera lenses and LED flash module is flush with the back all-metal body! Unlike to *P**e 7 Plus, it is protruding out of the back body.

The key tech breakthrough in the Mi 5s Plus is the mainly in thE SD 821 SoC, which uses the Qualcomm Clear Sight technoglogy. In fact. Mi 5s Plus is the first commercial device with a Qualcomm Clear Sight camera. This innovative dual-camera technology is designed to produce photos with improved dynamic range, increased level of detail, and less noise in low light.

The Mi 5s Plus is equipped with two rear-facing cameras (a color and a black/white), each with its own lens and image sensor. Like your eyes, the lenses have identical focal length (meaning they see the same distance). But each camera has a different image sensor: one color image sensor (to mimic cones), and a separate black and white image sensor (which can absorb more light, to mimic rods). The black and white camera provides more level of detail and less noise, and the Clear Sight fusion algorithm takes advantage of this to enhance the resolution and decrease noise in the final image.

Technically the color sensor and black and white sensors are the same, except for one tweak: the black and white sensor has had its top layer’s color filter removed. Without it, the sensor is unable to capture color, but its ability to capture light increases by 3x. This is especially helpful with low-light environments.

The rear-facing dual Image Sensor Processors, get an upgrade to 13MP , and it consist of a color sensor and a black/white sensor. When both imaging sensors are working simultaneously, it capture both a colour image and a B&W image. Using sophisticated Image Processing algorithm, it combined both the captured images. Hence it produces a much more 'clear' and 'richer' images.

This is quite similar to HDR, but the differences is in HDR is that, images captured are both in colours, and hence brings out a much more saturated images. And, not forget, in HDR, both images are captured and processed by the same Imaging Sensor Processor.

Last, but not least, this is the first Mi device which support shooting in RAW format!

SIZE

Xiaomi is always in pursuit for new technology breakthrough and perfecting their Mi devices. The new Mi 5s Plus stand at 5.7 inch big (retaining the same size as the flagship Mi Note/Pro), and comparatively to the competitor *P**e 7 Plus, it is bigger by 0.2 inch! Even though it is 'bigger' but in actual fact, it is 'smaller'. It is slimmer by 0.2mm, shorter by 3.6mm and it lighter by 20 grams! The 2.5D curve design make it easy and comfortable to grip with your 1 palm-hand size! This goes to show that the Xiaomi designers had really put much consideration and effort into every single details ( from into mm to inches and grams!) to perfect the Mi 5s Plus!
