The ability to write data to the SD card was removed in android 4.4. So, unless its been reinstated, you can't. The only way you can do it is if the file manager you use put a folder on the SD card when it was installed. Then you would be able to write to SD, but only to that folder.

It doesn't matter if the card is new. The permission was removed by Google in android 4.4.

Not quite true, otherwise there would be no point whatsoever in having one. It's the ability to run an app from SD that was removed.

It is entirely true that it was removed in android KitKat. However, as I said, it could have been reinstated. You used to be able to re-enable it but you needed root access. There are still apps on the Play Store to do it.

If you need an SD card for media consumption, you could easily use a PC with a card reader, or connect the phone or tablet via USB, so the ability to transfer files to an SD card wouldn't be needed.

OK, so it appears that the ability HAS been reinstated. I can add and delete files on the SD card on my Mi Pad 4 using the Mi File Manager and also with ES file explorer. Have you tried using a different one?
