Vivo Y66 First Impressions : Selfies and that’s it20 Mar. 2017 11:06|
Last weekend, Vivo launched its latest mid-range phone Vivo Y66 in India. This phone is priced at Rs. 14999. Like previous Vivo phones, this phone also claims to offer amazing selfie experience. I spent few hours with the phone are here are my first impressions of the same.Vivo Y66 First ImpressionsVivo Y66 comes with the similar design pattern that it used in its previous devices. It looks elegant. Above the display, the phone has front camera and front LED flash. Below the display, it has three non-backlit capacitive keys. The right edge of the phone has the volume rocker and power button, while the left edge has hybrid sim slot. The bottom edge has the 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB port, and speaker grille. At the back side, the phone has the rear camera and LED flash setup at the top-left corner. Due to curved edges on the back, it offers good grip. The phone has 5.5-inch HD IPS LCD panel. The display panel is bright, offers nice viewing angles and good brightness. But, this experience could have been better. I would expect a Full Display after paying Rs. 14k.The phone is powered by Octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 3GB of RAM. Here, the company didn’t confirm the chipset but I found it to be Mediatek 6750. This setup is also disappointing for the price one will pay this phone. This phone will offer satisfactory performance but it will not be a value for money performance.
You get 32GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB. The phone also supports USB OTG.The phone runs on FunTouch OS 3.0 that is clean and looks good. This FunTouchOS 3.0 is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The company should think of moving to Android Nougat. Here, software thing could also have been better. The camera is the only thing that is notable in the phone. Vivo Y66 comes with 13 megapixels rear camera with LED flash. It also has 16 megapixels front camera with moonlight glow selfie flash. So, you can capture good selfies even in low light. Here, the camera performance will be awesome and no other phone is close to offering similar camera performance in this price segment.
Another disappointment in the phone is the lack of fingerprint sensor. Yes, nowadays, this is a basic feature in all phones priced above Rs. 10k, but Vivo didn’t give it an importance.
The connectivity options in the phone include 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1, micro USB, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and GPS. The phone is packed with 3000 mAH battery with Quick Charge 2.0.You will also get Saavn Pro subscription for six months with this phone.Final WordsAt the price of Rs. 14999, this phone is not value for money. The only thing the company focused on the camera and ignored other specifications. I know that the phone will be available in offline channels where the phone goes with high price tags to offer margin to retailers, but I am still not happy with the pricing. But this phone still have no competition in the offline market and the company will enjoy its sales.Source: Techlomedia.com
