Good Day Mi Fans,
Welcome to Tech Class! Hope you all are doing well. Let’s get to know about the Tech Class, It is a platform for all the Community Users to learn about New Technology and also to get the Knowledge from our Community Device Team. We aim at providing good information on a Specific Topic, extending and sharing the helping hand to the users about the New and Old, Tech or parts, Hardware and Software of a Mobile Phone. We will give our best to bring some great chapters in future.
So the Class starts, with the topic we are about to start today is the Introduction to the Smartphone Specifications. The Specification or Specs in this thread gives the user a General Idea about selecting or buying a smartphone, The specs mentioned are not in detail so Google out for more Info on them.
Looks, Design and Weight
The first Thing you see in a Smartphone is its Body and design and not it’s software. It gives us the first Impression about the phone. Most people prefer good looks and design of the phone which includes a Phone being, Light, stylish, Sturdy and a Comfortable Grip. Some of the users prefer a Phone to have Premium and Flagship looks, along with a Metal Body. The color of a Smartphone can also add up to your style.
Mi Device Info: All the Xiaomi phones launched in 2016 have a Golden variant which is a sign of beauty, Premium and an indication of Flagship.
Not only limited to Looks, But the weight and size of the Phone also matters alot. A heavy smartphone will always cause some problems and would not be as portable as a Lighter one. When travelling, Trekking or playing a Game, A heavier phone would always make us become bored after some time. The weight of smartphone is directly dependent on the Capacity of a battery and screen size. For instance,Redmi 2 has a 2200mAh battery and weighs 138g whereas Redmi Note 3 has a 4050mAh battery and weighs 164g.
Mi Device Info: The Mi5 has an incredibly large 3000mAh battery and just weighs 129g.
Display Size and Resolution
The display size preference varies from a person to person, 5.0"inch is refereed as a small display and fits perfectly in Hand whereas some prefer bigger and large size display. In a Bigger display, you can enjoy playing a Full HD movie or playing a big-sized game, whereas in a smaller display it’s good to go for Messaging, long Calls and not give much stress on hands. A smaller display can be used by single hand whereas a bigger one needs two hands to operate it.
Screen resolution is the number of pixels. The image on your Phone screen is built up from thousands or millions of pixels. The screen resolution tells you how many pixels your screen can display horizontally and vertically. So higher the Display resolution better the Image output but in turn it takes out juice from your battery at a faster rate when compared with a lower Resolution phone.
Camera is used to capture the moment in your Vision. A Good Camera Hardware is needed for good Clicks. Most of the People think, More Megapixels means Better Quality,This is just a myth used for marketing. From a Photography Perspective look for a Phone with better Lens, Aperture, Exposure, Dual LED Flash and good Pixel quality. The requirements are now a days extended and people demand a Good Front camera too for Selfies and Video Calls. A Sony Sensor is used in most phones as it gives good results.
MI Device Info: Mi5 has a 4-axis OIS camera which is one of a kind.
Speaker & Music
Mobile speakers aren't especially loud. A phone puts out about as many decibels at maximum volume as a regular speakers does at 30-40% of maximum. Speaker sound output, bass, treble etc are very important in case you like listening songs or want a loud speaker Phone. The placement of speaker also plays an Important role in the Music section. Mobile speakers feel loud because they produce only high frequencies. For this we can connect a Headphone in the 3.5mm headphone Jack which nowadays have become a USB-C type one. This is a great addition to all the Music Lovers and alternately can connect to a Bluetooth Speaker too.
A phone needs the power to run and a Battery provides it. A bigger battery usually increase the phone's weight but also provides the juice to run it. Battery life also depends upon the Software & RAM Optimization. A higher clocked Processor will easily drain the battery, hence there are additions of under clocked processors/Power saving Cores. A phone's Battery can be charged by either a Charging Adapter or a Power bank. A typical battery usually takes about 2-3hrs to charge but with the latest Technology like Qualcomm Quick Charge, Mediatek Pump Express, DashCharge etc. the charging time is now reduced to nearly half what a Regular charge did. Who would not like to charge in one go and don’t run behind the wires?
A Phone requires memory to store the saved data in it. From the angle of a Normal Customer, a 16GB of Internal memory would be enough. Some phones also offer the expansion to microSD cards which acts as external memory. But this changes if you are a heavy user or a Pro-Gamer, as you would need to store Full HD videos, Heavy games, or Movies which usually take a lot of space. In Most of the Phones, Internal memory is used for storing the Apps & app data, so this should also be kept in mind before getting a Phone.
Note: You will not get all 16GB to be used in a phone, the pre-loaded apps and installed Rom would take up some space.
A processor or"microprocessor", is a small chip that resides in mobiles & smart/advanced computer gadgets. Its basic job is to receive input & provide the appropriate output. While this may seem like a simple task, modern processors can handle trillions of calculations per second. Processor handles all the basic system instructions, such as processing, display, touch input & running applications. A higher Clocked processor gives you an ease on running multiple programs whereas lower end would not. Most smartphones contain a processor developed by either Snapdragon (SD) or MediaTek (MTK), both of which use the x86 or x64 processor architecture.
More about Processor can be found here : http://c.mi.com/in/thread-8891-1-0.html
Mi Device Info: Xiaomi is the first to use SD 650 and SD820 in the world.
The RAM works quite different on your android phones than on your PC which most of us basic users are better acquainted with. The Apps that you download and install are first loaded in the RAM and then executed. Those Apps remain in the RAM after you are no longer using them and they have been shifted to background. The next time you use those apps they will be availablefor fast retrieval from RAM unless they have been removed. With continuous usage, the Apps that you use most frequently get placed on your RAM that is if you have enough RAM. It is very important for all the Multi-Tasking in your phone.
User Interface (UI)
A Good Hardware is not alone required for a phone to work smoothly, you would also need an optimized software. A 20k phone with Good hardware but with an in optimized software will make it waste. A regular update to the software will help in keeping the phone up to date with the Current Technology.
An update is also aimed to provide a Bug-Free and stable user experience along with latest Android Updates. Some UI also provide some great features to users which would help them in Everyday life. MIUI has some great features like Copy OTP, Second space, Scrolling Screenshots etc. which are very useful in many ways.
A phone with a lots of Connectivity options would help you keep up in Your Friend Circle or Family. A Dual Simphone is like the need of a working man, where one would like to keep his work and Family separate. A phone with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS are must even for a common user. A phone with 4G LTE, VoLTE will be necessary in India as all the telecom carriers have upgraded to it.
Sensor have now become an important part of a phone. Sensors like Magnetic sensor are needed for VR experience, Accelerometer for games, and Gyroscope for GPS. The trend of sensors have also changed with time, there are addition of new Sensors like Infrared sensor and Fingerprint sensor add more Security and provides control of other gadgets at ease.
Mi Device Info: Redmi3S, Redmi Note 3, Mi Max and Mi5 have both the Fingerprint sensor as well as IR
Not only these above factors are needed while looking or buying a Smartphone, Some factors like after-Sales service, Rom-Development, in hand use also matters. It is required to do some research on that Phone and the Manufacturer for a Hassle-Free user experience. Xiaomi aims at providing best experience with Constant updates, Improvised Services, Higher product availability and most important Xiaomi provides the Phone with best specifications at a Lower price.
