Hello Mi Fans,
We saw new emojis becoming a part of Android 8.0 Oreo and iOS 11 this year. Those included some new characters as well as the improved versions of others. But in 2018 you may be able to use reversed versions of this emojis. This is because Unicode Emoji 11.0 beta has been announced by the Unicode Consortium. This is limited to developers for now and includes 130 draft candidates.
The final list, however, may have more or less number of emojis. Since the Unicode Emoji 11.0 beta is with developers/smartphone vendors, they will have the flexibility to bring reversible emojis. The decision ultimately will be based on their preferences.
Some other enhancements are also said to come as a part of Unicode Emoji 11.0 beta. These will include slight changes characters such as no hair, curly hair and more. Some new emojis are also included in the list such as a fire-extinguisher, bagel, softball, swan and more.
It is also worth adding that Unicode Consortium has skipped several version numbers this time, directly jumping from Unicode Emoji 5.0 to Emoji 11.0. This has been done "due to the alignment of the emoji versions in 2018 and beyond with the versions of the Unicode Standard," says the Unicode blog post.
It has also been mentioned that "The draft 11.0 beta specification has a number of changes, including proposed guidelines for display, handling gender, handling skin tone, and a proposed mechanism for allowing emoji to point either to the right or left."
On a related note, Google a few days ago fixed the incorrect 'Hamburger' emoji in Android in Android 8.1. The emoji at first glance looked similar to other 'Hamburger' or 'Cheese Burger' emojis used by iOS and Windows Phone. However, the mistake was in the details. The emoji used in Android had the cheese slice placed at the last, something which was incorrect.
The 'market availability' of the new emojis is said to be in the second half of 2018.
