I found issues after the Pie upgrade when using the external micro SD card. It became extremely slow.
It's especially noticeable when recording videos. The camera app notifies that it became unresponsive. It happened once that I ended up with a .tmp file instead of .mp4.
Try moving or deleting files, it's the same. It takes forever to finish. I see this for an unreasonable amount of time:

The card has an exFAT file system. I mounted the card on a laptop and there were zero issues found by fsck. I moved and deleted files, it was snappy. On the phone I also had zero problems right before upgrading, I backed up the internal storage and it was quick. Now I see the following for a good amount of time when rebooting:

An additional problem is the card is not useable from the second space. From the File Manager app I can see the files, but I can't manipulate them. From other apps I can't see the card at all.
The only related information I found so far is this one from the old Pocophone forum:
I tried moving somewhere else around 2000 files of the 2300 I had in the /DCIM/Camera directory. It helped, but it didn't fix it.
Did you also face the problem? Do we need to wait for the next update for the fix or is there any solution? The workaround meanwhile is using the internal storage for photos and videos.
