Hello Mi Fans,
Recently we have found many users feedback that they have bricked their phone while flashing or updating Global ROM on their phone. We have made the investigation on it. MIUI brought a change in MIUI ROM flash or support policy. Now Xiaomi Phones which are manufactured in China Factory/China Hardware, can't be able to run MIUI Global ROM with Locked Bootloader. If any user tries to install MIUI Global ROM with China Hardware Xiaomi Phone, their phone will be going to recovery mode and can't run MIUI.
Devices: Redmi 5 series and all other devices released on 2018

Here are some tips that may help you with issue of getting bricked when you try to flash or update the ROM.
1. Verify whether it’s China ROM or Global ROM — Check the printing on the packing box. If the printing is in Chinese, then it's for Chinese market with MIUI China ROM. It will be highly risky to flash MIUI Global ROM
2. Verify the ROM version — V22.214.171.124.ODMMIFD is not an official MIUI Global version and it doesn’t support ROM updates. If any of you holding this version get update and enter the “recovery mode”, please ask help from the seller. I’d recommend you to buy from official or authorized sales channels.
3. If you have bought a V126.96.36.199.ODMMIFD phone and the bootloader is unlocked, you can flash it with fastboot to Global ROM V188.8.131.52 and keep it unlock (it'll be bricked once it's locked); or you can flash to China ROM (allowed to be locked).
