Hello Mi Fans!

To say about smartphone security we might say about Face Unlock. Currently, many companies are introducing this security system. Beside biometric security system face unlock system can secure your device highly. There are basically two types of Face Unlock, Infrared face uncloak and 3D Face Unlock.

Xiaomi has embraced Mi 8 & Mi 8 Explorer Edition with Infrared Facial Recognition, and 3D Face Unlock features and we're ready excited to know about those features and how does it work. However, the face detection sensors won't work while taking selfies. Let us know what makes different with these face unlock features.

3D Face Unlock
The selfie camera captures the face data of the user by analysing more than 33,000 invisible points of the face of the users to create a depth map. The infrared lens also captures the infrared image of the face at the same time. The AI engine of the SoC comes into play to convert the depth map and infrared image into a mathematical representation which is then correlated with the registered facial data stored on the phone to unlock it. Xiaomi claims that the probability of cracking the Face ID on MI 8 Explorer Edition is like one in one million.

The 3D Face Unlock features a complex structured light 3D module to enable 3D facial scanning. The notch of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition includes components like selfie camera, proximity sensor, ambient sensor, infrared lens, flood illuminator and dot projector.

Mi 8 Explorer Edition is also the first ever Android device in the world that comes with 3D face unlock — using advanced structured light technology that can rapidly match measurement points on a face while at the same time cutting down 3D data processing to save power. Also new in the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is an emoji function that allows users to create their own animated emojis based on their facial expressions.

Infrared Face Unlock
The cutout is for the in-house infrared solution for Infrared Face Unlock that works in a dark environment. The notch houses the Infrared Lighting and Infrared Lens sensors that enable the phone to use facial recognition even in the dark.

The feature uses an infrared camera, mounted on the notch, to scan the face and unlock the phone. There’s no word on how it compares to iris scanning and Face ID, but given that it’s not solely reliant on the front-facing camera, it could be a notable improvement on traditional face unlock.

So, in conclusion we can say that 3D Face Unlock is more secure and faster. So a new era is coming about face unlock system and I think more new technology will come to secure your device.
