Hi MI Fans!
In February at Mobile World Congress, Qualcomm announced a new tier of mobile chipsets, the Snapdragon 700 series. Today, the firm announced the first chipset from the new lineup, the Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform.
The new chipset is built on a 10nm architecture like the premium Snapdragon 845, and it's designed to bring high-end features - like a multi-core AI Engine - at a lower price point. Qualcomm says that the new AI Engine provides a 2X improvement in AI-related tasks when compared to the Snapdragon 660.
"The Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform is the first in the newly defined and highly significant 700-tier, offering technologies and features previously only available in our premium-tier mobile platforms," said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "By incorporating key AI capabilities and performance advancements, the Snapdragon 710 is designed to transform our customers products into the ultimate personal assistant, enhancing critical everyday consumer experiences, such as high-end camera features that will benefit from on-device high-speed AI processing, without sacrificing battery life."
The CPU includes two performance Kryo 360 cores that are clocked at 2.2GHz, while there are six efficiency cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The Adreno 616 GPU promises 65% faster graphics rendering, and it can display 62 times more colors (from 16.78 million to 1.07 billion), moving from 8-bit to 10-bit.
The Snapdragon 710 includes a Snapdragon X15 4G LTE modem, which supports Category 15 speeds, or up to 800Mbps. It supports 4x4 MIMO technology on up to two aggregated carriers. Comparatively, the Snapdragon 835 - last year's flagship chipset - supported 1Gbps download speeds, although most carriers still don't support anything close to this.
For image capture, the Spectra 250 ISP supports a 32-megapixel single-lens camera, or two 20-megapixel lenses. It uses 40% less power to capture 4K UHD video at 30fps, and has other features like active depth sensing, noise reduction, super resolution, and image stabilization.
